Hi, I am Jaap Brand, born on August 8, 1961 in Scheveningen and I am an amateur painter (autodidact) as they say. An autodidact is someone who has acquired his knowledge through self-study, and without any guidance from an educational organization or training. The term is used for knowledge levels where a solid education is expected, such as university or other higher studies, and especially artistic professions, for example painters. Through photographing Wildlife I started to breathe life into my old hobby by painting. This resulted in the further development of oil painting techniques, such as wet in wet or alla prima. I also apply the techniques of the old masters in a painting. Something I also occasionally work on is making a pencil drawing with the materials of Derwent Coloursoft pencill and Faber Castell Polychromos pencil, I do this to work with a different medium.
