Wilfried Grootens

WGrootens Blue hole 3 2021

Material: 5 waterpainted glasspanes, glued ,mounted on multiplex 2cm
Size: 78 x 78 cm

I paint 5 watercolors that are in relation to each other and glue them to a picture of one and a half cm thick. This creates a color-intensive 3dimensional abstract depth image. Through a drying process of about 2 days per color layer, emerge dried edges and contours reminiscent of imaginary landscapes and lakes from a bird's eye view. After all the developments and constructed expression, especially in the virtual world, I felt drawn back to create something simple and ultimately yet refined, which I succeed with my 3D watercolors.
Born 1954 in Uedem, Germany.1969 to 1973 apprenticeship as glass and porcelain painter with Hein Derix in Kevelaer. 1973 to 1981 travelled through Asia, South and Central America and the Middle East. 1981 to 1988 relocated to Munich. Participated in early “world music” projects, recordings with eg. Karnataka College of Percussion, Embryo, Dissidenten. Resumed working with glass. First experimental pieces. 1988 exams for master's certificate. 1989 Own studio in Kleve.
