About War
'Even if only slight, sketchy or unfinished, a drawing or a painting is a summary of something much bigger, a 'precipitate of impressions'... A contemporary visual artist based in Ulft (The NETHERLANDS), I sketch, draw and paint. I capture the essence of what it is that I see or feel: the emotion, the mood, the tension, the movement. I do that in all media, from charcoal sketches on paper to oil paintings on linen. In short, I make timeless works of art, in any technique and with any medium.I currently have my studio in the historic former prison cell complex De Kruisberg gevangenis in Doetinchem (THE NETHERLANDS), While living in Australia, I was a signatory member of the Victorian Artists’ Society and a member of the Hawthorn and the Hobsons Bay Artist Societies, all in Melbourne. After having moved back to The Netherlands in August 2022, I am now a member of artists' societies Het Breekijzer (Ulft, NETHERLANDS) and Het Web (Doetinchem, NETHERLANDS). I participated in some 30 group exhibitions, 4 solo exhibitions and 6 Art Fairs, in both The Netherlands, Germany and Australia and I was a finalist in 6 art competitions. My work is in private collections in The Netherlands, Australia, the United States, Canada en the United Kingdom. Works have been purchased for use in the Netflix series 'Clickbait'. Other works have been used as book-illustrations. In 2023, I was selected to participate in the 2024 edition of the Dutch TV show 'The Rembrandt Project.' I have been teaching art ('Dynamics Drawing and Painting') since 2019, through Art Societies and to private groups and individuals. Hans van Weerd, 12 August 2024.
