Daydreaming

Material: Oil on Paper
Size: 29.7 x 42 cm

In this image, a child is taking a small break from play. She is slightly melancholic and introspective, in a way that is a bit unusual for a young child. Despite her calm pose, one can guess the burst of energy that is about to follow.
I am an artist and architect with a background in 3D animation, based in Amsterdam, NL. For a significant part of my projects, I rely heavily on computer-aided design and digital image. The work shown here represents a shift in my art, a return to the origins. I am currently focusing on the exploration of painting and printmaking techniques, following the need to create my own tangible post-digital universe. Drawing from psychology, mythology and philosophy, my work is centered around the human being and the way it relates to the world. My art is instinctive, spontaneous, and explorative, based on observation and personal experience. My purpose is to communicate subtly, creating deep-rooted imagery that engages with the viewer on a subconscious level. I take a special interest in portraiture, looking to the exterior as a means to discover what lies within. My paintings are filled with hidden autobiographical elements, a personal code that connects to the collective experience.
