Jos van der Biezen

Footnotes II

Material: mixed media on bisonyl
Size: 90 x 150 cm

My daughter. Independent and large. On the footnote she just read. 'A footnote in history?'

Don Quichot del Arte Van der Biezen became an autodidact after seeing Bob Ross’ series “The joy of painting” on national tv. He attended ‘Avans’ Art Academy in Den-Bosch in 2006 on a blue Monday. Various efforts such as painting instructions of Marjan Klapwijk, Ton Krijnen and the famous COBRA artist Corneille to elevate his artistic skills to an acceptable level, were in vain. He became a local artist in his hometown Gouda after a ‘breakthrough’ by copying Hendrick Cornelisz van Vliet’s 17th century painting ‘The interior of Saint John’s church in Gouda’. His local exhibitions were virtually ignored. Like ‘Van Gogh’ he probably sold one painting in his life at cost price. His work will only contribute to art history as referral to ‘the Emperor’s new clothes’. Above all, the question remains; ‘Why persevering?’
