This is a portrait of a father on his 95th birthday, and his son, one of his caretakers. It stole my heart, seeing the connection and compassion between these two.The somewhat exaggerated foreshortening gives the painting a slightly disturbing mood
At the end of her medical career, Cecile (1958), living in the Netherlands, started painting in 2018. She chose watercolor as the magic of clean, flowing, transparent paint totally captivated her. In her portraits she catches emotions and narratives, often placing persons in a somewhat alienating setting. After having seen the work of the American watercolor artist Ali Cavanaugh and joining her international community of watercolorists she switched to painting with watercolor on alternative surfaces like grounded panels. Homemade, with a steep learning curve, due to Covid.
