Petra Verlooij

Polar Bear

Material: Oil/acrylics on canvas
Size: 70 x 70 cm

This polar bear is painted in an abstract background in different media. Spraypaint, acrylics. The polar bear is painted in oil and afterwords I useds acrylics again. Its a game of attract and repel witch caused the final result. The beautiful bear is Olinka from Blijdorp zoo Rotterdam. Unfortunately she passed away one year ago.
Petra Verlooij attended the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague, where she later became an art teacher. Since 1990 she focuses on painting animals and wildlife. "The combination of realism and abstraction is every time a big challenge to me. I like the experiment with different materials fluid acrylic paint, ink , spray paint . Everything is possible to create a colourful and interesting back ground. It looks like the animal or the animals are looking for a rightful place in the painting . When I paint the animal or the animals within the abstract background, it is if the painting paints itself. With only a part of the animal or animals painted the whole must be original , colourful and interesting.
